Breakfast: Frittata. I made half only on the stove, and half in the oven. Finishing the frittata in the oven really does give it a lighter, fluffier texture. Everyone liked it but Lincoln, who isn't fond of mixed foods. (He would prefer the sausage, egg and broccoli be served individually on his plate.)
Lunch: Sweet potato and kale chicken patties. Again, everyone ate them but Lincoln. I ate mine with Dijon mustard and lettuce, and Tyler ate his with BBQ sauce.
Dinner: Salmon and roasted brussel sprouts. Simple and delicious. My mother-in-law roasts them with balsamic vinegar; really you can't go wrong with balsamic vinegar! I can't believe I avoided it for most of my life.
Thoughts: Next week I am going to be pickier about the recipes I choose. It's disappointing spending a lot of time and only getting mediocre results. I know that's what happens sometimes, just like with anything you do, and that it will get easier once I find our favorites.
Hazel has been a real pill at meals, screeching and yelling "no" at everything. She brightens up immediately if I get her out of the high chair and eat with her on my lap. Wondering whether she wanted to sit with me, or just at the table with all of us, I had her sit on Lincoln's booster and she was just as cheery. So, it may be time to transition her to the table!
Sometimes, at snack or in this case dessert, I just put a plate of something somewhere and tell them to go at it. It's the quietest 3 seconds of the day!

"I just put a plate of something somewhere and tell them to go at it." lol! When I had a bad migraine one day when Adeline was about 8-9 months old I literally sprinkled Cheerios all over my bed to keep her entertained and fed while I tried to rest with an icepack (thankfully Finn was napping). Mediocre recipes are a bummer but it does happen. Try browsing at smittenkitchen.com. You will definitely get some good vegetable recipes and you could probably modify some of the other recipes to fit with your whole foods plan. I have never had a bad recipe from that site.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tip, Dagny! Headed over there right now. And the cheerios-- ha! We have to get creative to get a moment alone, don't we, even to rest a pounding head!
