Newborn

At first we must invent
in your smile, some feeling.
Because, it seems, intent
is evident of being.

And we need you to be.  Be more than a tiny, crying, puking, pooping, drooping, sleeping machine.

So we search, peer and test to detect
some sign, some glimmer of intellect.

Similarly automated,
like you, something in me waited
to feel
until you smiled at me for real.

More time at The Front

Climber Chick...

becomes Mommy.

Twenty pounds and a lot more calluses to go before I can look like that first girl again!

Tyler and I first started climbing when we were dating, and I was beginning to get pretty good at it.  Then I got pregnant, and a strange thing happened.  All of the sudden I was hesitant and fearful of falling (with reason, of course!) and that made climbing very frustrating.  Unfortunately I have held onto that feeling even though Lincoln is safely out of my womb.  I did make some progress today, though.  I flung myself upward to grab a hold, and fell.  A few more falls, and hopefully I'll lose my fears!

Lincoln was a trooper again today at the gym.  He hung out in his bouncy chair, looking at the colorful wall and cooing until he fell asleep.

The First

I will be staying at home with my baby boy for a couple more months before I head back to school part time to finish up my degree.  So I thought I would start a blog to share our adventures.

Today Lincoln and I went to Costco and the gym.  My husband and I have a membership at The Front, a local climbing gym.  I am still a little nervous and awkward on the wall with all of this added pregnancy weight, so this morning I just put Linc in his bouncy chair while I worked out on the cardio machines upstairs.  He was so well behaved for mommy!  Awake the whole time, and happy as can be.  The whirring of the stair climber helped, I think.  Babies like white noise.  I was going to climb after that, but I could sense that my boy was reaching his limits, so I decided to save that for tomorrow.  I think it's best that we only stay there an hour at a time.

Back at home, we played a little, and got in some tummy time.  I took a video of Lincoln rolling over!  He did this for the first time two days ago.  I can't believe my baby is already 10 weeks old!
